I forget sometimes
to tell the story
behind the words--
That the words themselves
are somehow less important
than what lies between
and under and behind---
Translucent, transparent---
Can you see my heart open?
Its various chambers lie there
waiting to open with a touch
a word
a gesture---
Sometimes just the smell of you---
I inhale your scent from your pillow
After you have gone to work---
Do you know that?
And with the smell of you,
my heart opens
and I start my day of singing, teaching, writing--
That is the story my love.
That is it.
