Seasons Change

Watchful eye

Beholds

Seasonal changes

Sweeping in

Past drains and gutters

To the nihilism of consumer spending

The holidays are coming

All the more reason

To encase ourselves

Further into debt.

Christmas has become an institution for commercialism. It is a head game that social relationship have impose on us. Yet will we deny ourselves the pleasure of watching the happy faces of children opening their presents? Leave the debt problem for one of our new year's resolution :)

I hope many people read this and receive inspiration from it. As a minimalist and one who does not participate in the materialism of the season, I thank you. The message is beautifully worded.

You hit the nail right on it's head, commercialism rings so true this time of year. The snow blows and flies as the people scurry in and out of stores buying trinkets and bobbles to give out to family and friends. Tis a time I hibernate like a bear in my cave with a few good bottles of red, my quill and my Muse by my side.Humbug:-))

AudreyHowitt profile image

AudreyHowitt Hub Author 6 months ago

Not a humbug at all, but such a good thing this hibernation--and thank you for the read!

Agreed, we can spend too much if we're not careful. The image of the drains and gutters filling up with consumer waste is so true. Thanks and rated it up.

Consumer debt is at its peak during the holidays. It seems we want more than we really need. I wish more people adapted the less is more attitude. People were created to be loved and things were created to be used. The reason why their is so much choas in this world is because things are being loved and people are being used. Great hub.

Dear Audrey ~ I'm not sure what to think of this one. It doesn't leave me feeling so good about those seasonal changes, unless I keep the change in my pocket and just give hugs and smiles. Even though this is not Haiku, it has the season theme. Love, Debby
